Under the agreement, SK Oceanplant will inform its executives and employees about the in-house collection and recycling system for waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products and promote related awareness, while handing over waste generated at its business site to E-Circulation Governance.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): SK Oceanplant said on the 20th that it has signed an 'E-Waste Zero, ESG Management Implementation Agreement' with E-Circulation Governance, a nonprofit public interest corporation, to promote eco-friendly collection and recycling of waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products. SK Oceanplant is the first company in the shipbuilding industry to sign such an agreement with E-Circulation Governance.

The agreement was established for both sides to build a resource circulation system for waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products based on mutual cooperation, and to contribute to achieving public objectives and fulfilling social responsibility through eco-friendly recycling.

SK Oceanplant, a renewable energy solutions company that manufactures offshore wind substructures, has actively participated in marine environmental protection and the establishment of a resource circulation system, given that its business site is located on the coast of Donghae-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The agreement adds significance as a model case for spreading a circular economy across industry and implementing ESG management.

Under the agreement, SK Oceanplant will inform its executives and employees about the in-house collection and recycling system for waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products and promote related awareness, while handing over waste generated at its business site to E-Circulation Governance. E-Circulation Governance will safely process and recycle the waste it receives, while providing greenhouse gas reduction certificates and results related to circular resources as ESG achievements from resource circulation activities, and will also pursue collection-linked social contribution activities.

Both sides plan to work together on the proper treatment of waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products and improving recycling rates, as well as on spreading a resource circulation culture and advancing environmental management. In particular, the systematic collection and recycling of electrical and electronic waste is expected to promote the recycling of useful resources and lead to the creation of tangible ESG results such as greenhouse gas reduction.

SK Oceanplant has steadily continued social contribution activities linking resource circulation with coexistence with local communities. Since 2024, it has cooperated with the Korea Battery Recycling Association to carry out the 'Love Waste Battery Campaign,' collecting more than 6,100 waste batteries over two years, and delivered 2,400 new batteries procured through this to social welfare facilities and village halls in Goseong, Gyeongsangnam-do.

'This agreement is the starting point of practice for managing waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products at our business site more systematically and eco-friendly,' said Choi Yong-seok, head of SK Oceanplant's ESG Division. 'We will continue to expand and strengthen resource circulation activities and actively implement ESG management going forward.'

'SK Oceanplant's participation will be a meaningful opportunity for spreading a recycling culture for waste batteries and waste electrical and electronic products and revitalizing the circular economy,' said Lee Sang-jin, chairman of E-Circulation Governance. 'We will actively cooperate so that the eco-friendly resource circulation system can be operated stably in the field.'
