SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. Steel has announced a $475 million investment in its Fairfield Tubular Operations near Birmingham to enhance production and workforce development.

The company revealed this week that the investment will fund a state-of-the-art heat treatment line, which is expected to increase production of American-made steel for the oil and gas industry while strengthening its supply chain.

The project also includes upgraded employee facilities and the addition of a virtual reality training center designed to improve workforce development and safety.

The new production line is expected to be fully operational by 2029.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell called the investment a major win for Alabama, saying, 'This investment will create good-paying jobs, strengthen our local economy, and help ensure that steel made in Alabama continues to power American industry for generations to come.'
