BIR Posts Record 2025 Membership Growth and Expands Global Influence

Director General Arnaud Brunet said the record growth reflects recyclers’ trust in BIR for representation, networking and market intelligence.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has released its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting record membership growth, stronger advocacy efforts and continued financial success for the global recycling sector.

Under the leadership of Susie Burrage, BIR’s membership reached nearly 1,100 organizations across 71 countries in 2025, with particularly strong expansion in Asia and the Middle East. An 86% retention rate reflected strong member satisfaction and reinforced confidence in the federation’s leadership.

BIR’s flagship World Recycling Conventions also set new attendance records. The BIR World Recycling Convention Valencia 2025 welcomed more than 2,000 participants from 66 countries, while the federation’s first convention in Bangkok attracted nearly 1,200 delegates, underscoring its growing global reach.

The federation strengthened its role in international policymaking by contributing to discussions at the United Nations, OECD and European Union, including participation in Basel Convention COP-17 and Global Plastics Treaty negotiations.

Director General Arnaud Brunet said the record growth reflects recyclers’ trust in BIR for representation, networking and market intelligence.

Strong financial performance also allowed BIR to freeze 2026 membership fees while reinvesting in technical expertise, digital initiatives and advocacy research to further support the circular economy worldwide.
