AISI Unveils 2026 Institute Medal, Market Leadership Honorees

AISI also honored Michael A. Grubb with the 2026 Market Development Industry Leadership Award for advancing steel’s competitive use in bridge construction.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute has announced the recipients of its prestigious 2026 awards during its General Meeting in Washington, D.C., recognizing groundbreaking technical research and leadership in steel market development.

The 2026 Institute Medal, AISI’s highest technical honor, was presented to Narayan S. Pottore, Hong Zhu, Kyung-Shik Kim, Can Okuyucu and Cemal Cem Tasan for their research paper on cutting-induced reduction in sheet metal formability.

AISI Chairman Lourenco Goncalves praised the recipients, noting their work will strengthen the steel industry’s technological capabilities for years to come. Established in 1927, the Institute Medal recognizes papers with exceptional technical merit and industry relevance.

AISI also honored Michael A. Grubb with the 2026 Market Development Industry Leadership Award for advancing steel’s competitive use in bridge construction.

Grubb, executive director of M.A. Grubb & Associates, was recognized for over four decades of leadership in steel bridge innovation, including major contributions to national bridge design standards and mentoring future bridge engineers.
