Minth Group to Invest $430 Million to Revive Former Republic Steel Site in Alabama

Initially several hundred positions will be created, with additional hiring planned over time.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Taiwanese automotive supplier Minth Group has announced plans to invest about $430 million to redevelop a century-old steel mill site in Gadsden, Alabama, bringing new industrial life to the former Republic Steel property.

The company purchased the 400-acre brownfield site that once housed operations of Republic Steel and earlier Gulf States Steel. The new campus will become Minth’s largest global manufacturing base and is expected to generate about 1,325 jobs as operations expand.

Initially several hundred positions will be created, with additional hiring planned over time. The facility will manufacture plastic and aluminum automotive components for Hyundai in Montgomery, Alabama, and Kia in West Point, Georgia.

Minth supplies battery enclosures and body structure parts to more than 80 automotive brands, including Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Jeep, and Lucid Motors. The company says the Alabama site will strengthen its North American supply chain as automakers accelerate production of electric and advanced vehicles.

The redeveloped campus is expected to feature nearly one million square feet of manufacturing space following renovations and expansions. Average annual wages for new jobs are projected at about $49,000. Local leaders welcomed long-awaited industrial revival.
