Chinese alumina imports during Jan-Aug this year down 37.5%, says Customs data

BEIJING (Scrap Monster) : According to the latest data released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the country’s alumina imports during the initial eight months of the current year dropped significantly over the previous year.
As per Customs data, the country’s total alumina import during the period of eight months from January to August this year amounted to 2.03 million tons, which is 37.5% lower when compared with the imports during the same eight-month period in 2012. For the month of August alone, the country’s alumina imports totaled 140,000 tons.
There has been a considerable drop in the total imports of unwrought aluminum during the period. China imported 545,459 tons of unwrought aluminum during the period from January to August 2013. The imports during the period have dropped by 34.2% year-on-year. During the month of August alone, China imported 86,209 tons of unwrought aluminum.
As per Customs data, the country’s total aluminum scrap import during the period of eight months from January to August this year amounted to 1.58 million tons, which is 7.6% lower when compared with the imports during the same eight-month period in 2012. For the month of August alone, the country’s aluminum scrap imports totaled 240,000 tons.
