U.S. Raw Steel Output Rises in Mid-December 2025, Says AISI Report

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domestic raw steel production in the United States totalled 1,753,000 net tons in the week ending December 13, 2025, according to industry data. The capability utilization rate stood at 76.5%, reflecting steady operational performance across mills.

Production during the corresponding week in 2024 was 1,665,000 net tons, with utilization at 75.0 percent. This marks a 5.3 percent year-on-year increase in weekly output. On a sequential basis, production rose 1.1% from the week ending December 6, 2025, when output was 1,734,000 net tons and utilization was 75.7%.

Year-to-Date Steel Production Performance

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 13, 2025, reached 85,881,000 net tons, operating at an average capability utilization rate of 76.8%. This represents a 3.4% increase compared with 83,068,000 net tons produced during the same period last year, when utilization averaged 75.4 percent.

Regional Production Breakdown

Steel output by district for the week (in thousand net tons) was as follows:

·         Great Lakes: 480

·         Midwest: 264

·         North East: 121

·         Western: 73

The data highlights strong regional contributions, led by the Southern district, reinforcing continued momentum in U.S. steelmaking activity.
