Global Crude Steel Production Falls 5.9% in October, Says worldsteel

The Middle East region's steel production increased the most, rising by 9.2% over the same month a year before.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Global crude steel output posted a notable decline in October 2025, with the 70 member nations of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) producing 143.3 million tonnes (Mt) of steel—marking a 5.9% year-over-year drop.

Regional Production Breakdown

Asia and Oceania continued to dominate worldwide steel production, generating 102.4 Mt during the month. The EU-27 region followed with 10.8 Mt, while North America secured the third position with 9.1 Mt. Production across other regions was reported as follows (in Mt):

  • Africa: 2.0

  • South America: 3.7

  • Middle East: 5.4

  • Other Europe: 3.6

  • Russia & other CIS + Ukraine: 6.4

Regions Reporting Growth

Several regions posted year-over-year growth in crude steel production. The Middle East recorded the strongest increase, surging 9.2% from October 2024. Other regions showing positive momentum included Africa, Other Europe, and North America.

Regions Facing Declines

Most producing regions experienced downturns, with Asia and Oceania seeing the steepest fall at 8.2%. Output also slid in:

  • Russia & other CIS + Ukraine: -5.1%

  • EU-27: -3.5%

  • South America: -1.1%

Year-to-Date Output

worldsteel figures reveal that global crude steel production reached 1,517.6 Mt during January–October 2025, representing a 2.1% decrease compared with the same period in 2024.
