The 2024 Sustainability Report highlights the recent sustainability milestones achieved by the company.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Following its establishment in July of last year as a result of a strategic partnership between Smurfit Kappa and Westrock, Smurfit Westrock announced the release of its first sustainability report. The company's recent sustainability successes are highlighted in the 2024 Sustainability Report.
Up to 16,000 entirely recyclable cardboard bed frames were created and manufactured by the company for athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The business performed well at the Worldstar awards and took home more than 100 accolades for its creative and environmentally friendly packaging solutions. In November of last year, the corporation also issued $2 billion in Green Bonds, backed by its Green Finance Framework.
Smurfit Westrock and the legacy companies gave $8.8 million to their local communities in 2024. The company's collaboration with the WWF in Colombia resulted in the protection of over 1,400 species in its woods. Other noteworthy accomplishments include a 90% decrease in water usage and a reduction of more than 1,000 tonnes of emissions per year.
The study shows that sustainability remains at the heart of Smurfit Westrock's operations, according to Garrett Quinn, Chief Sustainability Officer. It also emphasizes its environmentally friendly production method, which uses naturally sustainable ingredients to create paper-based packaging.
