Equinox Gold Ceased Production at Los Filos Mine

Equinox Gold has been engaged in collaborative negotiations with all the three local communities since November 2023.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Equinox Gold Corp. has provided a key update on its Los Filos Mine in Guerrero, Mexico.

Following the expiration of its land access agreement with the municipality of Carrizalillo on March 31, 2025, the firm announced that it has ceased operations at the mine indefinitely.

Equinox Gold Attained 2023 Gold Output Guidance

In order to establish the economic and investment conditions required for ongoing operations at the Los Filos Mine, the firm must enter long-term agreements with three local communities: Mezcala, Xochipala, and Carrizalillo. The projected development of a new 10,000-ton-per-day carbon-in-leach processing plant also needs local communities' agreement.

Since November 2023, Equinox Gold has been negotiating together with all three local communities. In January of this year, it came to an arrangement with the villages of Mezcala and Xochipala. These two communities subsequently ratified and signed the long-term agreements. However, according to the news release, the corporation and the Carrizalillo neighborhood have not yet signed a new long-term deal.

The company's recently issued 2025 output guidance does not include production from the Los Filos Mine.
