World Crude Steel Output Slumped in February
The second month of the year saw a modest 7.6% increase in the region's steel production.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In February of this year, 144.7 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel were produced by the 69 countries that are members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), a notable 3.4% drop from the same month the year before.
With 107.3 Mt, Asia and Oceania was the region with the highest steel production for the month. With 10.1 Mt, the EU-27 region was the second-largest producer. With an 8.2 Mt production, the North American countries came in third. Africa (1.9), South America (3.4), the Middle East (3.7), Other Europe (3.3), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (6.7) make up the remaining regions' output (in Mt).

The production of crude steel increased year over year only in the African area. The region's steel production increased by a moderate 7.6% in the second month of the year.
All other locations saw a fall in production over the month, according to reports. The production decline was greatest in the Middle East, where it was 11.5%. Crude steel production in the EU-27 and Other Europe decreased by 7.1% and 9.7%, respectively, over the previous year.
The CIS+Russia, including Ukraine, with a 1.9% decrease in output from February 2024, experienced the smallest annual output decline this year.
According to worldsteel data, the combined output for the first two months of 2025 was 302 Mt, which was 2.2% less than the same time in 2024.
