SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. steel industry reported higher raw steel production during the week ending June 6, 2026, according to a recent report published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to the latest industry data, domestic raw steel production totaled 1.877 million net tons for the week, with mills operating at a capacity utilization rate of 81.3%. This marks a 5.3% increase compared to the corresponding week in 2025, when production totalled 1.782 million net tons at a utilization rate of 79.3%.

On a week-over-week basis, production edged up by 0.3% from the previous week ending May 30, 2026, when U.S. steel mills produced 1.872 million net tons at an 81.1% utilization rate. The modest increase suggests stable operating conditions across the domestic steel sector.

Adjusted raw steel production through June 6, 2026, reached 40.69 million net tons, representing a 6.4% increase from 38.24 million net tons produced during the same period last year. The year-to-date capability utilization rate improved from 76.8% in 2025 to 78.5% this year.

Regionally, the Southern district remained the largest steel-producing region with 844,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 502,000 net tons, the Midwest at 318,000 net tons, the Northeast at 140,000 net tons, and the Western region at 73,000 net tons.
