DS Smith Launched Industry-Leading R&D and Innovation Centre
The R8’s collaboration space covers the whole innovation spectrum under one roof.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith plc. - the London-headquartered multinational packaging business announced launch R8- its global Research & Development (R&D) and Innovation Centre. The first such facility in the entire industry allows the company, its partners and customers to accelerate the research and development of new sustainable packaging solutions.
The facility is located near Birmingham, UK. It comprises of a 4,000 square metre pilot hall, four laboratories, conditioning chambers, an ideation and design studio, prototyping areas, and collaboration spaces. The R8’s collaboration space covers the whole innovation spectrum under one roof.
The R8 facility will explore smart packaging for tracking and monitoring the supply chain, alternative natural resources in papermaking, reusable fibre-based technologies and advanced barrier technology for food and industrial applications.
Stefano Rossi, CEO, Packaging Division, DS Smith noted that the R&D centre will develop solutions that help customers to reduce their waste, streamline production and boost sustainable productivity. It reiterates the company’s commitment to reduce plastics and promote the use of alternative fibres.
