Georgia Pacific Announced Groundbreaking of New Papermaking Complex at Green Bay Mill
The works include installation of a new paper machine that incorporates latest technology.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia Pacific broke ground on expansion to its Green Bay mill on South Broadway. The $500 million investment will add a new paper-making complex to the mill. The expansion works are expected to be completed in 2024. The company had initially announced the investment in December last year.
The works include installation of a new paper machine that incorporates latest technology. In addition, the expansion also includes addition of an associated converting machine, apart from buildings and other associated infrastructure. The investment will help Georgia Pacific to boost its retail consumer tissue and towel business. It must be noted that the mill currently runs seven paper machines and associated converting operations.

Nearly 100 new jobs will be created via this investment, with majority of the jobs expected to be filled by workers affected by the closure of the company’s Day Street mill. Tim Ellisworth, Vice President-Manufacturing at Green Bay operations noted that almost 80% of the shut Day Street mill will be transferred to Green Bay operations to fill the above positions. The mill currently employs approximately 800 workers.
The company has made capital investments in excess of $700 million at its Green Bay facilities since 2006. Incidentally, the Broadway mill is regarded as one of world’s largest waste paper recycling operations.
