worldsteel Announced Topmost Steel Producing Countries in June 2022

China recorded lowest year-on-year dip in steel output during the month, among the top ten producing countries.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of June this year.

China topped the list, although its output registered 3.3% decline in output over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output totalled 90.7 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first half-yearly period of the current year totalled 526.9 Mt, significantly down by 6.5% over the same period in 2021. China recorded lowest year-on-year dip in steel output during the month, among the top ten producing countries.

India’s estimated output, at 10.0 Mt, recorded a surge by 6.3% over June 2021. The country produced 63.2 Mt of steel during Jan-June ’22, significantly higher by 8.8% over the previous year.  Incidentally, India was the only country to report year-on-year surge in output, amonf the top ten crude steel producing nations. The Japanese output dipped 8.1% during the month to total 7.4 Mt, while its output was down by 4.3% over Jan-June ’21 to total 46.0 Mt until June this year.

The U.S. produced 6.9 Mt, down marginally by 4.2%. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.0 Mt, significantly lower by 22.2% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (5.6), Germany (3.2), Turkey (2.9), Brazil (2.9) and Iran (2.2).

The crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the Association totalled 158.1 Mt and 949.4 Mt in June 2022 and Jan-June ’22 respectively.
