DS Smith Biodiversity Drive to Plant One Tree for Each Employee

The project is expected to create positive impact on wildlife species native to the landscapes in the region.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The DS Smith Charitable Foundation, in partnership with environmental charity One Tree Planted has committed to plant more than 50,000 trees across Europe and North America over a period of five years.

The company has funded the planting of 29,000 trees, one for each employee, in celebration of the International Day of Forests. Around 80% of these trees will be planted by the end of this month, with the rest scheduled for planting before the end of the current year. The project is expected to create positive impact on wildlife species native to the landscapes in the region. Also, it will create significant job opportunities as well.

The tree planting programme intends to plant 4,000 trees in Leiria Pine Forest, Portugal, 6,000 trees across Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Virginia, US and 4,000 trees in Essex, UK. The other projects announced during the previous year include planting of 10,000 trees in Romania and 5,000 trees in Denmark.

Wouter van Tol, Head of Sustainability, Community and Government Affairs at DS Smith said that DS Smith is committed to protecting and caring for the natural environment where it operates. The partnership projects like these will boost the company’s efforts to enhance biodiversity, he added.
