AF&PA Released Most Recent Boxboard Report
The mill inventories at the end of September 2021 were up by 35,000 short tons from the prior quarter.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released Packaging Papers & Specialty Packaging Monthly report for the month of September this year.
The total packaging papers and specialty packaging shipments declined sharply by 7% year-on-year in September 2021. The shipments during the initial nine-month period of the year were up marginally by 1%, compared to Jan-Sep ’20. The operating rate stood at 86.8%, whereas the mill inventories declined by 2,000 short tons from the previous month, AF&PA report said.

Meantime, the total containerboard production in Q3 increased 9% compared to Q3 of 2020. The cumulative production during Jan-Sep ’21 was up 7% when compared to the corresponding nine months of 2020. The quarterly containerboard production for export registered 10% Surge during the third quarter. The containerboard operating rate stood at 95.6%. The mill inventories at the end of September 2021 were up by 35,000 short tons from the prior quarter.
When compared with the corresponding quarter a year before, the total boxboard production in Q3 2021 increased by 6%. The boxboard operating rate, at 95%, was up by 3.6% from Q3 last year. The recycled boxboard production in Q3 2021 has increased marginally by 1% over the previous year.
