Cleveland-Cliffs Hosted Ribbon Cutting at Toledo Facility
The investment reinforces Ohio’s reputation as a great place to do business, he said.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cleveland-based Cleveland-Cliffs hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new hot-briquetted iron (HBI) facility in Toledo, Ohio. The ceremony initial six months of continuous operation at the facility. The ceremony was attended among others by Lourenco Goncalves, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland-Cliffs, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.
Commenting on the milestone achievement, Goncalves stated that the event formally marks the culmination of its $1 billion investment to build the world’s most modern and environment-friendly Direct Reduction plant. The HBI produced at the plant has helped the company to cut greenhouse gas emissions, boosted profitability through enhanced productivity of blast furnaces and eliminated prime scrap purchases from third parties, Goncalves added.
Meantime, Governor DeWine noted that the plant has brought new life to the site, in addition to providing jobs and opportunities for workers in Northwest Ohio. The investment reinforces Ohio’s reputation as a great place to do business, he said.
The plant has nominal capacity to produce nearly 1.9 million metric tons per year of customized high-quality HBI. It employs around 160 employees.
