Tex-Isle Inc. to Build New Tubular Steel Mill in Robstown
The mill will be capable of producing steel tubes from 2.375 inches to 8.625 inches in outside diameter.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Houston-headquartered Tex-Isle Inc. announced plans to open a new tubular steel mill in Texas. The mill, to be located in Robstown, is scheduled to start operations during the third quarter of the current year. The facility will be built adjacent to its existing 60,000-square foot OCTG heat treating, inspection and threading facility.
According to company press release, the new mill will bring the company’s total investment in the region to nearly $100 million. The Robstown tubular mill will feed its other facilities, it noted. The opening of the mill is the successful culmination of the vertical integration initiative launched in 2009.
The mill will be capable of producing steel tubes from 2.375 inches to 8.625 inches in outside diameter. Out of the 350,000 tons of tubes, which it intends to produce per year, 250,000 tons will be slated for American Petroleum Institute material, whereas the remaining 100,000 tons will be reserved for structural products.
Billy Sias, business development manager, Tex-Isle noted that the location of the new facility has several strategic advantages. It is within 20 minutes of the deep-water Port of Corpus Christi. Furthermore, the opening of the new state-of-the-art EAF steel mill by Steel Dynamics in Sinton will further tighten its supply chain, he added.
The new facility is in line with the company’s commitment to expand its manufacturing capabilities, while lowering its carbon footprint.
