Sodra Foundation Released Grants in Support of Forestry Research
The second round of funding will focus mainly on cross-laminated timber (CLT) applications.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Sodra Foundation for Research, Development and Education announced a grant totalling SEK 8.7 million to 11 research projects in connection with forestry industry. The second round of funding will focus mainly on cross-laminated timber (CLT) applications.
The project “Potential applications for high-performance cross-laminated timber – Innovation for increased competitiveness” will receive the largest funding in this round. The four-year long project will be carried out at Lund University and will develop new models to boost efficient use of forest products. Four projects that were granted funding are related to forest management.

Catrin Gustavsson, President of Innovation and New Business at Södra noted that CLT consumption has been witnessing steady rise over the years and that there exists a huge potential for development in this area. The more efficient use of materials could boost its value and thus the competitiveness, he added.
Since its inception in 1995, Sodra Foundation have now distributed funding to a total of 200 projects, which in turn has resulted in significant advances in forest management and forest industry.
