Smurfit Westrock Bolsters Ecuador Operations Through Cartomanabí Acquisition

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Westrock has finalized an asset purchase agreement to acquire Cartomanabí, a packaging manufacturer based in Montecristi. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition strengthens Smurfit Westrock’s regional supply chain by improving connectivity between its North American production network and operations across Latin America. Founded in 2020, Cartomanabí operates a corrugated packaging facility with an annual production capacity exceeding 50,000 tonnes.

The company primarily supplies packaging solutions to customers in the agriculture, protein, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and industrial sectors, serving a growing base of regional clients.
According to Smurfit Westrock, the acquisition supports its broader growth strategy in Latin America and will enhance its ability to serve customers in Ecuador and nearby markets with sustainable packaging solutions.
Commenting on the deal, Alvaro Henao said the acquisition represents the company’s first transaction under the Smurfit Westrock brand and marks a significant milestone in the region.
Henao added that the company plans to work closely with local customers, leveraging its integrated supply chain and expertise to deliver innovative, value-driven paper-based packaging solutions.
