Ahlstrom to close pulp mill, 2 paper machines in Mosinee

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Ahlstrom is closing its pulp mill and two paper machines at a facility in central Wisconsin.

The company says it will upgrade its two remaining machines at the mill in Mosinee, which is just south of Wausau.

WSAW-TV reports the changes will affect about 200 employees.

The company cited rising costs and limited automation as reasons for the closures. The changes are intended to make production more modern and competitive.

Ahlstrom also owns mills in De Pere and Kaukauna. The company's news release issued Thursday does not mention any changes to those facilities.
