URT Launches New Recycling System for Processing Plastic Electronic Scrap

The prototype system to test the process was released last year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Wisconsin-based Universal Recycling Technologies (URT) announced launch of a new separating and recycling system for processing plastic electronic scrap. The new system will produce clean granulated product, which the company intends to sell in domestic market.

The new system makes use of several separation tanks. It has the capacity to process approximately 6,000 pounds of electronic scrap per hour. The system recovers all metal contaminants from the plastic stream. The process uses a fluid of intermediate density to process the electronic waste, which in turn will allow materials with higher specific gravity to sink and others to float on it.

The company had started research on the plastic separation system nearly three years back, after spotting immense opportunity for a stable and domestic e-waste plastic solution in the market, said Jim Cornwell, President, URT. The system mainly focuses on recovery of a variety of plastics including polystyrene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, polyethylene and polypropylene.

The prototype system to test the process was released last year.

URT is one of the select few recyclers in North America, capable of producing clean granulated product from e-waste plastics.
