Smurfit Kappa, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Join Hands to Introduce New Packaging Solution

The innovation is part of the company’s ongoing Better Planet Packaging initiative.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa, in collaboration with its partner Mitsubishi HiTec Paper, has launched an innovative food-safe packaging solution which is 100% recyclable. The innovation is part of the company’s ongoing Better Planet Packaging initiative.

The outer packaging is made using proprietary Catcher Board MB12 packaging technology, so as to enable protection of food from mineral oils. It absorbs mineral oils that exist within the packaging and also those that migrate from the outside environment. It uses unique absorption technique to trap mineral oils, thereby ensuring safety of food for a longer period and complete protection of aromatics and taste. Meantime, the inner packaging contains Mitsubishi HiTec Paper’s BARRICOTE barrier paper, which helps in sealing heat and protection against moisture and heat.

The innovative packaging solution was shortlisted as a finalist in both the sustainability and technology categories of the Swiss Packaging Awards earlier this year.
