SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hartsville, S.C.,-headquartered Sonoco received top recognition for its innovative sustainable packaging solution. The company's paper-bottom EcoSeal rigid paper container was awarded the How2Recycle®’s (H2R) “Check Locally Recyclable” status.

The Ecoseal paper container is part of Sonoco's EnviroSense family of sustainable packaging. It incorporates a number of elements associated with more sustainable packaging such as reduced environmental impacts, shipping optimization, increased use of recycled content and recyclability. It includes bio-based material and meets responsible fiber sourcing guidelines. It uses recycled content. Moreover, it is completely recyclable.

Rodger Fuller, Senior Vice President, Global Consumer Packaging, Display & Packaging and Protective Solutions, Sonoco stated that by achieving 'Check Locally' status, it has reached a great milestone for its widely used paperboard cans. The company is committed to creating more sustainable packaging across the board, he added.

The 'Check Locally' label is specifically designed to reduce confusion by creating a clear and nationally harmonized labelling program that enables companies to convey how to recycle a package. The label is recognized by more than one-fifth of the material recovery facilities. The label boosts the availability and quality of recycled materials. Furthermore, it supports the company's guiding principle of 'Better Packaging Better Life'.

Sonoco collects nearly 3 million tons of materials annually, bulk of which are used as raw materials to make new sustainable packaging.
