US Gets First Bitcoin ATM Installed at a New Mexico Cigar Bar

The first US Bitcoin ATM launches at New Mexico’s Imbibe Nob Hill Cigar Bar in Albuquerque, near the University of New Mexico.

IMBIBE (Scrap Monster) : The first US Bitcoin ATM launches at New Mexico’s Imbibe Nob Hill Cigar Bar in Albuquerque, near the University of New Mexico. The first machine for exchanging the digital currency for the American Bitcoin users was supplied by the New Hampshire-based Lamassu, overtaking in a heated race against Robocoin which had earlier announced to launch their first ATMs in the US by this year. The new ATM installed at the New Mexico bar is owned and managed by the company – Enchanted Bitcoin. Speaking on the occasion of ATM launch, the Lamasssu CEO, Mr. Zach Harvey conveys his gratitude to the compay saying that it has opened path Bitcoin accessibility in the US.

Enchanted Bitcoin, registered under the FinCEN division of the Department of Treasury has become the authorized money transmitter with the legality to operate Bitcoin ATMs in the Country. To mark the moment, a launch party has been organized at the Imbibe Cigar Bar on February 21st, evening. Expressing pleasure on the launch, the co-founder of Enchanted Bitcoin says that they are looking forward to being able to accept Bitcoin. The ATM machine of Lamassu differs from traditional machines as they can only convert fiat currency declared by the Govt. as legal tender to Bitcoin and not the other way around.

According to the CEO of Lamassu, Enchanted Bitcoin obtained proper regulatory permission for installing the machine quickly, due to which the launch of the machine was done immediately after its installment. New Mexico is one of the only states in the US after South Carolina that does not require a MSB license to operation in the Country. Lamassu’s CEO says that they will have to be vigilant with the transmitter policies and providing the best digital security is also important. Lamassu is also building ATMs at fast rate to meet the demand of installations at various other places. According to report, production of the machines is targeted at 40 to 60 a month.
