SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  After years of economic and diplomatic disruption, Venezuela is negotiating a second aluminum shipment to the U.S. as trade links begin to reopen. The prospective cargo would follow a 15,000 metric-ton delivery that arrived in New Orleans in late September, underscoring a still limited but symbolic revival in bilateral commerce.

Second cargo discussions and shipment timing

As first reported by Bloomberg, trading house Mercuria Energy Group and private mining investors Heeney Capital are in talks with Venezuelan officials over a new aluminum cargo to the U.S.

People with knowledge of the matter say the terms are likely to resemble the earlier shipment, with the new cargo expected to depart by year-end. The discussions remain private, and the people asked not to be identified because the negotiations are ongoing.

Trade reopening carries symbolic industrial significance

The negotiations point to a cautious revival in trade between Venezuela and the U.S. after years of strained economic and diplomatic ties. Even if the volumes remain modest, a second shipment would reinforce signs that commercial channels are reopening in the metals sector.

For Venezuela, renewed aluminum exports could support its mining and industrial activity, while for U.S. buyers the cargo offers another source of supply from the region. The talks also suggest that private commodity and investment groups continue to test opportunities created by the gradual return of cross-border trade.

Our earlier coverage of Pakistan’s proposed Port Qasim aluminium smelter explained AsiaPak Investments’ plan for an export-focused project targeting more than $5 billion in annual shipments at full development. We noted that the proposal hinges on a dedicated back-to-back power purchase structure with CPPA-G and a conditional settlement of the long-running late payment interest dispute involving PQEPCL, with approvals and payments tied to a multi-year timeline.
