CMI was established with the objective of exploring the possibilities and commercializing the results of research conducted at the University of Virginia (UVa) to develop advanced engineered materials. . Since its founding in 2001, CMI has actively partnered with a number of government agencies and private companies to evaluate the viability of Microtruss™ in a wide variety of applications.

CMI is committed to the engineering, design, and fabrication of innovative lightweight solutions using its proprietary MicroTruss® and StruckSure® architectures for applications in structural design, thermal management, and vehicle/infrastructure protection.
