SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Century Aluminum has welcomed a new executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump that aims to encourage investment in domestic primary aluminum production by offering tariff incentives for new manufacturing projects.

The executive order allows companies that invest in building new primary aluminum production facilities in the United States to import an equivalent quantity of primary aluminum at a reduced tariff of 25%, compared with the previous 50% rate. The measure is intended to support large-scale industrial investments, apart from strengthening the country's aluminum supply chain.

Century Aluminum said the policy provides a big boost to its plans to expand U.S. aluminum manufacturing. Earlier this year, the company announced a partnership with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) to develop a new primary aluminum smelter in Inola, Oklahoma. The project has the potential to more than double the nation's current output.

Commenting on the announcement, Century Aluminum President and CEO Jesse Gary said the executive order will further strengthen the company's commitment to supplying domestically produced aluminum to key industries, including defense and aerospace.
