SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Vancouver-headquartered miner Fortuna Mining has achieved a major milestone for its Diamba Sud gold project in eastern Senegal. The company received government approval for the project’s environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA).

A decree by the Senegalese government states that the Diamba Sud project complies with applicable environmental and social regulations. The approval of the environmental and social impact assessment marks a major step forward in its journey to securing a mining permit. It must be noted that Fortuna submitted its mining permit application to Senegal’s Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines on February 4, 2026.

Fortuna President and CEO Jorge A. Ganoza said the rapid issuance of the decree reflects the quality of the company’s technical and environmental work. He also noted that the approval demonstrates Senegal’s commitment to supporting the responsible development of its mining sector while maintaining regulatory standards.

In addition to Diamba Sud gold project in Senegal, Fortuna Mining operates exploration projects across Argentina, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Guyana, and Peru.
