U.S. Steel Shipments Post Solid March Growth Amid Demand Recovery

Performance across product categories was mixed. Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments showed strong growth, rising 13% year-over-year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. steel mill shipments recorded a strong increase in March 2026, reflecting continued recovery in domestic steel demand, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Total shipments reached 8.20 million net tons, marking a 10.9% rise compared with February 2026 shipments of 7.40 million net tons and a 6.2% increase from March 2025 levels of 7.73 million net tons.

On a year-to-date basis, U.S. steel mills shipped 23.18 million net tons through March 2026, representing a 4.4% increase compared with 22.20 million net tons recorded during the same period in 2025. The data highlights steady momentum in the steel sector during the first quarter of 2026.

Performance across product categories was mixed. Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments showed strong growth, rising 13% year-over-year. Hot rolled sheet and strip shipments increased by 4%, supported by stable demand from manufacturing and construction sectors. However, cold rolled sheet and strip shipments declined by 6%, indicating some softness in specific downstream applications.

Overall, the latest shipment figures suggest improving market conditions for U.S. steel producers, driven by higher industrial activity and consistent demand in key segments.
