Smurfit Westrock Wins 15 WorldStar Awards for Green Packaging Excellence

Another innovation replaced EPS for solar panel packaging, enabling upright transport and delivering a 33% reduction in CO₂ emissions.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Westrock has reinforced its global leadership in paper-based packaging by winning 15 WorldStar Awards, recognising its innovation, creativity, and strong sustainability focus.

Among the standout solutions were an eye-catching point-of-sale protein pack, premium whisky packaging delivering a memorable unboxing experience, and a smartly engineered pack for interlocking 10-litre bottles. Sustainability was the defining feature across all winning entries, many of which form part of the company’s Better Planet Packaging portfolio.

One award-winning solution replaced expanded polystyrene (EPS) buffers with corrugated alternatives in industrial washing machine packaging, eliminating 3.3 tonnes of plastic annually. Another innovation replaced EPS for solar panel packaging, enabling upright transport and delivering a 33% reduction in CO₂ emissions.

The WorldStar Awards, organised by the World Packaging Organisation, celebrate the world’s most innovative packaging solutions. The 2026 awards ceremony will be held on May 8 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
