Wieland Breaks Ground on $27M U.S. Brass and Copper Plant Expansion

Initial operations for the multi-phase project are scheduled to begin in Spring 2027, with full completion expected by 2031.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Wieland officially broke ground on January 15, 2026, at its Montpelier facility, Wieland Chase, marking a major milestone for U.S. metals manufacturing. The company, North America’s largest brass rod producer, is investing $27 million to build a new 17,000-square-foot plant dedicated to expanding semi-finished brass and copper production exclusively in the United States.

The expansion will add capacity for ammunition ordnance wire manufacturing, making Wieland the first company to break ground domestically following federal policy actions aimed at restoring U.S. leadership in the semi-finished and finished copper products sector.

“This investment underscores our commitment to American manufacturing,” said Thomas Christie, President of Wieland Chase, noting the company’s ambition to become a key supplier of brass wire to the North American ammunition market.

Initial operations for the multi-phase project are scheduled to begin in Spring 2027, with full completion expected by 2031. The expansion is projected to create 43 new high-quality manufacturing jobs in Williams County.

Wieland Chase has operated in Northwest Ohio since 1965 and has steadily expanded its alloy, forging, foundry, and ingot capabilities. The Montpelier project aligns with Wieland’s broader U.S. growth strategy, including a $600 million investment in Illinois and a new recycling center in Kentucky to strengthen domestic copper supply chains.
