worldsteel Data Shows 4.6% Drop in Global Steel Production in November 2025
Despite the broader downturn in production, a number of regions posted year-on-year increases.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Worldwide crude steel production weakened further in November 2025, reflecting persistent pressure on global manufacturing activity.
According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel), the organization’s 70 reporting member countries produced a combined 140.1 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel during the month, down 4.6% from November 2024.
Regional Output Snapshot
Asia and Oceania remained the largest steelmaking hub, accounting for 99.9 Mt of total output despite a sharp annual contraction. The European Union (EU-27) ranked second with 10.2 Mt, followed by North America at 9.0 Mt. Steel production in other regions was reported at 2.0 Mt in Africa, 3.5 Mt in South America, 5.5 Mt in the Middle East, 3.7 Mt in Other Europe, and 6.3 Mt across Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine.
Regions Posting Annual Gains
Despite the broader downturn in production, a number of regions posted year-on-year increases. Other Europe led the gains with a 9.8% increase compared with November 2024. Africa, the Middle East, South America, and North America also recorded modest production improvements during the month.
Regions Under Pressure
Asia and Oceania posted the steepest decline, with output falling 7.1% year over year. Production also slipped in Russia and other CIS nations plus Ukraine (-3.9%), as well as in the EU-27 (-3.5%).
Year-to-Date Performance
For the January–November 2025 period, global crude steel production totalled 1,662.2 Mt, representing a 2.0% decrease from the corresponding period in 2024, highlighting ongoing headwinds across the global steel sector.
