Tucson crew puts out scrap metal fire near Davis-Monthan base

By 2:12 p.m., the fire was under control and no injuries were reported.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Tucson Fire Department put out a scrap metal fire reported south of the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, specifically at 6581 E. Drexel Road, near Craycroft Road.

TFD said crews were were dispatched to the area around 12:43 p.m. on Dec. 10. The Engine 17 crew responded and reported a large pile of scrap metal on fire.

The fire was attacked by a deck gun and an aerial master stream by Quint 22, TFD said. The Davis-Monthan fire crew sent a ladder truck to help battle the fire from the northside.

'The biggest challenge was hydrant access - crews had to lay two hose beds - at least 1000 feet of 5”hose, water pressure due to length of the hose and the amount of metal,' TFD said. 'The backhoe was used to unearth hotspots in the pile.'

By 2:12 p.m., the fire was under control and no injuries were reported.

TFD said the fire was an accident.
