Hydro Announced Shutdown of Five European Extrusion Plants
The company plans to begin a formal consultation process with employee representatives at the affected plants immediately.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hydro has announced plans to close five of its aluminum extrusion facilities across Europe as part of a broad restructuring initiative aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing long-term competitiveness in the region.
According to the company, the decision follows an extensive evaluation of plant performance and current market conditions. The closures are expected to reshape Hydro’s manufacturing footprint in Europe, helping align capacity with demand and strengthen operational efficiency.
The facilities proposed for closure include sites in Cheltenham and Bedwas in the United Kingdom, Lüdenscheid in Germany, Feltre in Italy, and Drunen in the Netherlands. A total of 730 employees are projected to be impacted by the shutdowns, Hydro confirmed in an official statement.

A formal consultation process with employee representatives will begin immediately, and the shutdowns are scheduled to be completed during 2026.
Following the restructuring, Hydro’s Extrusion Europe division will operate 28 extrusion plants and five recycling centers, employing approximately 7,000 people. The overall restructuring cost is estimated at NOK 1.9 billion.
Eivind Kallevik, Hydro President and CEO, emphasized that the decision was difficult but necessary for the company’s future performance. He noted that all affected employees will be treated with dignity and fairness and reaffirmed that Hydro remains committed to maintaining a strong presence in European markets.
