Smurfit Westrock Recognized for Leading Sustainability and ESG Excellence

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Westrock has been honored at the 18th BritCham Awards for its exceptional sustainability and community development initiatives. The company’s “A Cauca of Opportunities” program received the award in the category “Community Management for the Reconciliation and Peace of Colombia”.
Organized by the Colombian-British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham) in partnership with the British Embassy and EAN University, the annual awards celebrate leading business achievements in sustainability, climate action, and social innovation. Winners were selected from a competitive pool of 350 entries.
Running for over four decades, the “A Cauca of Opportunities” program has supported sustainable development across rural and urban communities in the Cauca department. In 2024 alone, the program benefited 2,800 individuals and created 876 formal jobs in municipalities including Buenos Aires, Suarez, Santander de Quilichao, Cajibio, El Tambo, Popayán, Timbío, and Sotara.
Smurfit Kappa highlighted that the program’s success demonstrates how sustainable development can be achieved through strong community partnerships. The company emphasized its commitment to continue building alliances that positively transform local territories.
