Birmingham man dies in industrial accident at CMC Steel after unauthorized access
Chambliss suffered blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:49 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A man who entered a Birmingham steel plant property without authorization died after an industrial accident Friday evening, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Robert Carson Chambliss of Birmingham. Authorities say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on November 7 in the 100 block of 50th Street South, at CMC Steel.
Chambliss suffered blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:49 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
Investigators determined that Chambliss was not an employee or contracted worker for CMC Steel and had entered the property without authorization.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
