Lewis Scrap Metal Expands with Purchase of Milano Metals
Lewis Scrap Metal’s ownership of the Mt. Vernon facility officially took effect Monday.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Lewis Scrap Metal, a rapidly growing business based in Burnt Prairie, announced last week the purchase of longtime competitor Milano Metals in Mt. Vernon.
Milano Metals, originally founded as Shapiro Brothers in 1920, had been family-owned for four generations. Gino Federici led the company beginning in 1967, and in 2006, his children — Mary, Mia, and Mike — took over operations, renaming it Milano Metals & Recycling.
As part of the acquisition, two of Federici’s children, Mike and Mia, will continue managing the Mt. Vernon location in partnership with Lewis Scrap Metal’s leadership.
The purchase expands shipping opportunities for Lewis Scrap Metal, as the Mt. Vernon facility is served by three rail carriers: Norfolk Southern, Evansville Western, and CSX.
