Sibanye Stillwater to Acquire U.S. Precious Metals Recycler Metallix
The acquisition will help Sibanye Stillwater to further enhance its US operations in Montana and Pennsylvania.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In an effort to increase its recycling presence internationally, Sibanye Stillwater, a company based in South Africa, announced that it has decided to purchase Metallix, a precious metals recycler based in the United States. Subject to obtaining the usual regulatory permissions, the $82 million deal is anticipated to completion in the third quarter of 2025.
Gold, silver, and platinum group metals (PGMs) are among the recycled precious metals that Metallix generates, mostly from industrial waste streams. In Greenville, North Carolina, it runs two recycling and processing facilities. Along with its clients in the US, Metallix also has a global clientele that it serves from its additional sites in South Korea and the UK. The business has been around for more than 60 years.
Through the addition of patented technologies, processing capacity, and technical know-how, the acquisition will assist Sibanye Stillwater in further improving its US operations in Montana and Pennsylvania.
Neal Froneman, the CEO of Sibanye-Stillwater, commented on the deal, saying that the company is thrilled to be including Metallix into its already extensive recycling portfolio. Numerous synergies with its current recycling activities will result in a significant value uplift from the acquisition.
