The fire reportedly started near some vehicles under a carport within the scrap metal yard.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): El Paso Fire crews were called to a significant blaze at a scrap metal yard on 6450 Mohair Drive in Northeast El Paso, where a firefighter sustained injuries while contending with the fire.
According to KVIA, the incident required the response of approximately 35 units and 100 firefighters to control the Condition 4 fire, which denotes a severe situation with heavy flames.
In addition to the firefighter, two civilians were also injured during the blaze.
They were transported for treatment related to smoke inhalation, and the injuries have been described as minor.
The emergency personnel responded to reports of the fire, which appeared to have been a Condition 2 situation but was later upgraded, indicating a rapidly evolving and dangerous scene.
The fire reportedly started near some vehicles under a carport within the scrap metal yard.
Fire investigators were promptly on scene to assess the cause and analyze the damage wrought by the inferno.
As KTSM reported, the structure involved is a business that contains many 'junk' cars, which likely presented a challenging environment for firefighting efforts due to flammable materials and compacted space.
As this remains a developing story, more information is expected to be released following thorough investigations. Local news outlets like KFOX-TV advise the public to check for updates as they become available.
