Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- May 16, 2025

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices increased marginally by 2.97% to end the week at CNY 19,050 per MT, when compared with the previous week.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report provides the weekly global market price trends for the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of May 9–15, 2025:

 

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a modest increase of 1.13% in copper scrap prices.

North America

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright increased by 1.11% during the previous week. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing was up 1.13% from the start of the week, closing at $4.46 a pound. Likewise, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing increased by 1.16% per pound, from $4.31 to $4.36.

USA East Coast

As of Thursday, May 15, 2025, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index went up 1.11% for the week, from $4.51 to $4.56 per pound. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing went up a little over the previous week, from $4.41 to $4.46 per pound. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had increased by 1.16% to $4.36 a pound by the conclusion of the week.

USA Midwest

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright has increased by 1.13% in the last week. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing increased by 1.16% at the end of the week, from $4.31 to $4.36 per pound. The price of copper scrap increased by 1.19% in the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category. The commodity's price per pound increased from $4.21 to $4.26 during the course of the week.

USA West Coast

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright increased by 0.85% between $4.70 and $4.74 per pound throughout the week. Last week, the price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing went up by 0.87%. By the end of the previous week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was up 0.89% from $4.50 to $4.54 per pound.

China

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index had a little increase during the previous week, which ended on May 15, 2025. The weekly closing price of CNY 77,400 per MT was higher than the previous week's price of CNY 76,950 per MT. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price increased by 0.61% from the week before. Furthermore, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was up 0.62% at the end of the week, from CNY 72,250 per MT to CNY 72,700 per MT.

Europe

From the previous week, the weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright remained at $6,000 per tonne. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index was unchanged from the previous week at $5,200 per tonne. Additionally, during the week ending May 15, 2025, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index stayed unchanged.

 

Brass Scrap Prices

Prices for Brass scrap increased somewhat from the previous week, by 1.46%.

 

North America

Red Brass saw a rise from $2.81 to $2.85 per pound by the conclusion of the week. Yellow Brass also experienced a minor increase on the Index. The price of the product increased from $2.66 to $2.70 per pound, a slight increase of 1.50%.

Over the last week, Red Brass's price increased by 1.42%. At the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went up from $2.66 to $2.70.

USA Midwest

The price of Red Brass increased from $2.80 to $2.84 per pound, a 1.43% jump from the previous week. Yellow Brass prices also recorded rise, according to the Index. The commodity's price increased by 1.53%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 1.40% from the previous week, trading at $2.90 a pound as of Thursday, May 15, 2025. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased by 1.49% from the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices increased marginally in the week ending May 15, 2025. The Index shows that the price of Yellow Brass were up by 0.28% week over week to conclude at CNY 35,450 per MT, while the price of Red Brass edged higher from CNY 38,200 per MT to CNY 38,300.

 

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal increase of 2.90% over the previous week.

North America

In comparison to the previous week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire recorded a marginal increase of 3.70%. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions witnessed a jump of 2.33% in the week ending May 15, 2025. On the Index, Old Cast's price edged higher by 2.78% week-on-week. In addition, UBC's prices were up by 2.74% from the previous week.

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire reported a slight increase of 3.70%, rising from $1.08 per pound to $1.12 per pound. During the week ending May 15, 2025, the price of 6063 Extrusions was up by 2.33% when compared to the previous week. The Index showed that the price of Old Cast has gone higher by 2.78%. Additionally, UBC's prices inched higher by 2.74% on the Index during the previous week.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has increased by 3.70%. The commodity's price ended at $1.12 per pound last week, upon comparison with 1.08 per pound from the previous week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions were up by 2.38% from the previous week. Both Old Cast and UBC prices edged higher from the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire's price witnessed a marginal increase from $1.08 per pound to $1.12 per pound over the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that the price of 6063 Extrusions increased by 2.33% week-on-week. The prices of Old Cast in the Index were up by 2.74 over the week. Additionally, UBC's pricing too witnessed an increase of 2.70% as of May 15, 2025.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices increased marginally by 2.97% to end the week at CNY 19,050 per MT, when compared with the previous week. Also, upon comparison with the prior week, the price of 6063 Extrusions rose by 3.16%. As of May 15, 2025, Old Cast's price on the Index were up by 3.20%. Over the course of the week, UBC prices increased from CNY 12,050 per MT to CNY 12,300 per MT on the Index.

Europe

The price of Old Cast was flat at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. The ScrapMonster Index also shows that UBC prices remained same from the previous week at $1,250 per tonne.

 

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded an increase over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS showed marginal increase in the commodity’s price over the previous week, rising from $0.64 per Lb to $0.65 per Lb, according to weekly pricing trend.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices recorded increase week-over-week. The prices ended the week at $0.65 per Lb on the Index.

USA West Coast

For the week ending May 15, 2025, 304 SS solid prices edged higher by $0.01 per Lb to end the week at $0.65 a pound.

China

Over the course of the week, the price of 304 SS Solid edged higher. The commodity’s stated price increased to CNY 10,200 per MT during the week ending May 15, 2025.

Europe

The price of 304 SS Solid did not change from the previous week's price of $1,070 per ton.

 

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported decline when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has dropped by 6.94%. The commodity's price remained ended the week at $335 per MT. In addition, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap recorded decline by 9.76% to end at $370 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 closed the week at $275 per MT, down from the previous week’s price of $300 per MT. In addition, #1 Busheling's price edged lower by 4.44% during the week.

The weekly pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap dropped from $410 per MT the week before to $370 per MT. The price of HMS 80/20 was down by 8.33% for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices registered week-on-week decline by 4.44%.

USA Midwest

Over the previous week, #1 HMS's prices have witnessed a decline of 6.94%. During the week, Shredded Auto Scrap dropped by 9.76%. The Index's HMS 80/20 pricing recorded decline of 8.33% to end the week at $275 per MT. In the week ending May 15, 2025, the price of #1 Busheling dropped from $450 per MT to $430 per MT.

USA West Coast

Over the previous week, there has been a decline of 6.94% the #1 HMS price. The commodity's price ended the week at $335 per MT. Additionally, rates for Shredded Auto Scrap dropped by 9.76% during the course of the week. HMS 80/20 pricing also recorded decline by 8.33% from the previous week. Additionally, the price of #1 Busheling was down by 4.44% during the previous week ended 15 May, 2025.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 HMS stayed consistent throughout the week at about $170 per MT. As in the previous week, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap remained constant at $130 per MT during the week.

 

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of Scrap Auto Batteries stayed constant at $0.22 per pound during the week.

The price of scrap auto batteries remained at $0.22 per pound, same as it had been at the beginning of the week.

China

There has been a minor decline in the index's Scrap Auto Battery pricing during the past week. During the week ending Thursday, May 15, 2025, the commodity's price dropped by 0.74% to close at CNY 6,750 per MT.

Europe

Throughout the week, the price per ton of scrap auto batteries stayed at $820, which was the same as the week before.

 

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded increase in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast were up by 1.33% over the previous week. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise recorded increase by 1.59% on the Index. As of Thursday, May 15, 2025, the price of the commodity was $0.64 a pound.

USA West Coast

Throughout the week, the price of New Zinc Die Cast increased by 1.33% to end the week at $0.76 per pound. Furthermore, the price of Old Zinc Die Cast was up by 1.59%, according to the Index. The commodity's price closed the week at $0.64 per Lb.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. At $800 per Tonne, the price remained unchanged week-on-week.
