Stainless Steel Melt Shop Production Surged in 2024

The Others region accounted for a production of 7.820 million metric tonnes.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Stainless Steel Association published stainless steel production figures for the entire previous year. The stainless steel melt shop recorded a year-on-year increase of 7% in 2024 to total 62.6 million metric tonnes. It must be noted that the production had totalled 58.539 million metric tonnes in 2023.

With 39.441 million metric tons produced in 2024, China was the leading producer. This represented almost sixty-three percent of global production. When compared to the 36.676 million metric tonnes produced in 2023, the nation's output increased by 7.5%.

7.820 million metric tons were produced in the Others region. With a 9.2% increase in production over 2023, the area saw the most increase. The United States saw the next-highest production increase. According to the trade body's press statement, production increased 6.9% from 1.824 million metric tonnes in 2023 to 1.950 million metric tonnes in 2024.

From 5.997 million metric tonnes in 2023 to 6.088 million metric tonnes in 2024, Europe's melt shop production climbed by a slight 1.5%. The Asian area, which does not include China and South Korea, produced 7.322 million metric tonnes last year, which was 6.4% more than the 6.880 million metric tonnes produced in 2023.
