SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  The aluminum industries in Canada and Quebec are reportedly preparing for possible U.S. tariffs. The Aluminum Association of Canada stated that the tariffs will negatively affect the two nations' trade relationship and called for concerted efforts to combat them.

About 4.4% of the world's aluminum is produced in Quebec province, which also produces about 90% of Canada's aluminum, according to Jean Simard, President & CEO of the Aluminum Association of Canada. Additionally, Canada produces almost 3.2 million metric tons of aluminum annually, whereas the United States only produces about 700,000 metric tons.

In order to handle the possible crisis situation, Simard urged the public and lawmakers to present a unified front. He cautioned that both parties would suffer greatly as a result of the tariffs.

Metal shipments may be redirected by the U.S. administration's proposed 25% tariffs on all Canadian imports. To get around any prospective tariffs, the aluminum produced in Canada will be diverted to areas like Europe. This might cause supply chain markets to diversify, which would cause a significant change in the aluminum industry in North America.

The Canadian government, meanwhile, declared that it would apply retaliatory tariffs to American goods coming into Canada.
