Tenova will supply an EAF with an annual capacity of 3 million tonnes of steel. The EAF will reduce the site's carbon emissions by up to 90% and is anticipated to be put into service by the end of 2027. It will also drastically lessen the nation's need on imported iron ore. Tenova will also provide new ladle metallurgy furnaces.
The historic deal will allow Tata Steel Limited to modernize its steelmaking facility, which will not only boost the UK's decarbonization effort but also result in the creation of significant economic development prospects in the region, according to Mr. T V Narendran, CEO and MD of Tata Steel Limited.
According to reports, Tata Steel is collaborating with the authorities in order to file an application next month. It intends to start major site preparations by July of the following year.
