AF&PA: Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Rose Significantly
In August, US shipments of uncoated free sheets fell by 1% year on year.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) released its latest Packaging Papers Monthly Report.
The report suggests significant rise in total shipments of packaging papers and specialty packaging. In August 2024, shipments increased by 12% over the previous year's equivalent month. The Association said that shipments increased by 12% throughout the first eight months of the year.

AF&PA reported a 90.7% operational rate for unbleached packaging papers in the previous month. This increased by 10.2 points from August 2023. Meanwhile, food wrapping shipments were 25,300 short tons in August this year, down 0.5% from the previous year.
The printing-writing paper shipments increased by 4% in August this year compared to the same month the previous year, according to the Printing-Writing Monthly Report for August 2024. Total printing and writing paper inventory levels fell by 4% from July 2024 levels.
In August, US shipments of uncoated free sheets fell by 1% year on year. In contrast, shipments of coated free sheets and mechanical papers climbed significantly, by 16% and 17%, respectively.
The AF&PA members make about 87% of the pulp, paper, paper-based packaging and tissue products made in the U.S.
