SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading non-profit foundation As You Sow, in collaboration with environmental solutions platform Ubuntoo announced publication of the ‘2024 Plastic Promises Scorecard’.
The report provides a detailed study of as many as 225 companies across the globe spread across 15 industries, on their stated plastic reduction goals and the various actions undertaken by these companies in achieving these goals. The report identified huge gap between the plastic reduction commitments made by the companies and their actions.

According to the report, only 22 out of 147 companies with stated recyclability goals are on track to meet their targets. Despite commitment to reduce use of plastics, several companies are found using more plastic. Also, the infrastructure investments by companies to facilitate recycling is significantly less than desired levels.
The ‘2024 Plastic Promises Scorecard’ highlighted that big corporations have a huge role to play in promoting efforts aimed at tackling the plastic pollution crisis at its source. The ongoing negotiations over a global plastic treaty as well as the stricter regulatory environment comprising of new EPR rules hold manufacturers financially responsible for the waste produced by them.
The report urged the global companies to act immediately on the plastic crisis, so as to ensure a better world.
