Environmental Advocate Talks About Plastic Reduction Bill

The bill is supported by the City Council and the Adams administration, and is currently being debated by Albany lawmakers.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Advocates rallied Thursday to urge lawmakers in Albany to pass legislation that would reduce waste and pollution by dramatically cutting back on single-use plastics.

The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act would reduce plastic packaging by 50% over the next 12 years. Among other things, the bill would also prohibit certain toxic chemicals from being used in packaging, including PFAS — known as forever chemicals.

The bill is supported by the City Council and the Adams administration, and is currently being debated by Albany lawmakers.

Judith Enck, a former Regional Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency under President Obama and current president of Beyond Plastics, an organization that aims to end plastic pollution, joined political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Thursday night.
