Rio Tinto Appointed Bold Baatar as New CCO

Bold, who currently serves as Chief Executive Copper, is expected to relocate to Singapore to take up the role of Chief Commercial Officer on 1st September, 2024.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Rio Tinto announced appointment of Bold Baatar as its new Chief Commercial Officer. He replaces Alf Barrios, who had recently announced his decision to retire from the company.

Bold, who currently serves as Chief Executive Copper, is expected to relocate to Singapore to take up the role of Chief Commercial Officer on 1st September, 2024. Meantime, Alf will continue in his role as Chief Commercial Officer until end-August this year, so as to ensure smooth transition. Also, he will continue to remain as Executive Committee member until his retirement in end-2024.

Bold will lead Rio Tinto’s global commercial and business development activities. He will be responsible for the company’s sales and marketing, procurement, marine, and logistics activities. At the same time, Bold will continue to lead the Executive Committee for Guinea and Rio Tinto’s relationships with its JV partners on the Simandou project, said the company press release.

Rio Tinto Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm extended sincere thanks to Alf for his broad and significant contribution over a decade of service at Rio Tinto. Welcoming Bold to the new role, Stausholm noted that he is ideally suited to help deliver the company’s strategy of building a stronger Rio Tinto for the future. His leadership will help to create both value and growth, Stausholm added.
