SAIL Starts Preparation of Report for Expansion of Four Steel Mills
The DPR will cover four steel mills under SAIL: Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP, IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP).
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Indian state-run steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has commenced preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for expansion of four steel mills and to ramp up crude steel production to 30 million mt from 21 million mt year at present, company sources said on Thursday, June 8.
The sources said that the DPR has been scheduled for completion by September this year and that the company aims to commence the expansion project in 2027-28 and complete it by 2030-31.
The DPR will cover four steel mills under SAIL: Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP, IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP).
However, its flagship steel mill, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), has been kept out of the purview of the current DPR, but no explanation for its exclusion has been disclosed by the steel producer.
Industry sources said that Bhilai steel mill has possibly been left out of the first round of expansion because of issues relating to availability of land have not yet been resolved.
